India is a large country, ranking 7th in the world by land area. It has a 7200 km long coast line and a wide continental shelf. Situated in the tropical zone with ample rains and sunlight, India’s seas are rich in a variety of marine life. As a result, fisheries and Seafood exports plays an important role in India not only in providing livelihood to the people but also to the foreign exchange of the country through export sector. There are about 500 seafood processing units spread through 20 major locations along the entire coast of India. There are nearly hundred seafood varieties that are processed and exported in Frozen form to more than 60 countries.
